Filippo
Piscopo is a New York
State Council on the Arts recipient filmmaker, born and raised
in Italy and based in New York City. He gained international acclaim
for his NYC theatrically released 2006 documentary Urbanscapes,
a portrait of evolution, change, and chaos in four different US
metropolises as seen through eyes of residents and artists who
have witnessed the dramatic transformation of their neighborhoods,
co-directed with his wife Lorena Luciano.
His award-winning work
includes Venice Film Festival screened and Houston WorldFest Finalist
Award Dario Fo and Franca Rame: A
Nobel for Two.
His third feature-length
film Coal Rush, a 5-year-in-the making documentary on a West
Virginia water contamination story, was selected in competition
at the 2012 Atlanta Film Festival. Filippo collaborates as a
freelance TV producer-director for major European TV networks
such as the BBC, RAI, TF1 and RSI, and for the United Nations
TV on documentaries filmed on location in the United States and
Europe, and he is producing In the Middle, Lorena Luciano’s
new documentary on the Italian journey of an African couple
in the aftermath of the Arab Spring.
